Hodgkinson Concludes Campaign with Winning Display at Athlos Meet in NYC
Hodgkinson achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in the British capital.
The Olympic champion concluded her 800m campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos event in New York on Friday evening.
{The current Olympic champion, who secured third place at the global championships recently, excelled in an impressive victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a season impacted by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.
"I haven't competed much this year so it was probably easier for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," stated Hodgkinson.
"The atmosphere out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The women-only event packed the stadium in its second edition, introducing a festive vibe to traditional track, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the winners with their tiaras.
Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.
The competition also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith K. won the mile, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.
The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
